I love independent film, but honestly if I didn't attend Project Resolution last month - I never would have heard about the Iris Festival. There was almost no marketing. Which is a real shame - because at this level the best thing you can do for a film-maker is to give them exposure. Even within the film community there wasn't a lot of exposure for this festival. Richmond is a quilted city - full of isolated groups - crossing over them to get a larger portion of even just the film community aware of your efforts is quite a challenge. I want to encourage the producers involved in this project - it is quite a daunting task to try and do what you are trying to do for the film-makers of Richmond, and I commend you for it. If anything could be done to make the next fesitval a bigger success - it would be to have more posters and promotional material to let people know about the festival. |

Thanks Indi Film Supporter.
I just wanted to take a moment and give you an idea of what our marketing efforts were like.
Let me start by saying that we only came up with the idea for the
festival at the end of June. We immediately contacted the VA Film
office who posted information on all their sites and sent emails out to
over 1000 of it's subscribers. We had advertising on NPR and on air
ticket give aways on B103.7 and Oldies 107.3. We were listed in Style
Weekly and we were noted on several websites, ranging from WCVE's
website to TVJerry's website. We also posted flyers in every window in
Cary town that seemed to accept them, as well as several other key areas
in town we felt would be frequented by someone interested in a local
film festival. All in all we posted about 100 flyers in the metro
Richmond area.
Our prep
time consisted of 45 days to find a location, films and market the
event with only two people essentially coordinating everything.
Should we do this again, our planning will begin much earlier and will consist of more people to help us with things.
Thanks for your feedback and we appreciate your support yesterday. |

Your feedback is very useful to us for future planning of this event. Thank you for sharing it with us, and we apologize for not getting the word out sooner and better than we were able to. This event has been a learning experience for us. |
